Belly Fat Myth - You Can Spot Reduce
Let's get this out in the open and cleared up now. If you're here, it is more than likely because you want to get rid of your belly fat, beer belly, gut, pouch - whatever you choose to call it. The biggest myth about belly fat is that you can spot reduce it. Meaning, if you do hundreds of crunches or sit-ups, you'll lose that belly fat in no time. WRONG.
You cannot spot reduce your belly fat. There is no such thing as spot reduction for any fat on your body. However, a lot of marketers play on this myth to sell their ab fitness products. You can and should do crunches because just like other muscles in your body, you should work out your abs, however, don't expect your six-pack abs to show with a layer of fat on top of them.
If you want to lose your belly fat, here is what you need to do:
1. Clean eating - Put down the beer, pizza, and cinnamon buns. Pick up the fruits, vegetables, whole grains, water, and lean proteins. You know, real food that doesn't contain preservatives, bad fats, and sugar.
2. Do some cardio - You need to start burning fat. Cardio will help with this but in order to preserve muscle, you may want to consider interval training which burns fat more effectively than study state cardio.
3. Lift weights - Muscle burns more calories than fat. You want to build strength and become more defined. The more muscle you have, the more fat you'll burn.
Get rid of the spot reduction myth once and for all. You'll be much better off and you can start shedding your belly fat effectively.
